Maxwell Park

Located in the leafy foothills of Maxwell Park, this light‑filled Craftsman home offers a serene escape with effortless access to the Bay & Forest Trails of Oakland. From its tree-lined street, you are greeted with a seller-curated native front garden and a regal Craftsman front porch that begs you to sit outside and stay a while. The sophisticated interior features hardwood floors, a freestanding gas stove, and beautifully preserved Craftsman details.

Inside the roughly 1,048 sq ft (per public record), you’ll discover a flexible layout with two bedrooms and a full bath with sunken tub just off the living and dining rooms, anchored by an original built‑in dining hutch that nods to the home’s architectural legacy and invites lively dinner parties. A half‑bath, which features a stackable washer/dryer, is just off the kitchen, ideal for guests, and leads out to the lush backyard.

The heart of the home is a gorgeous gourmet kitchen with wooden cabinetry, newly grouted tile floor, stainless steel appliances, and a sweet breakfast nook that overlooks the garden.  The home is as stylish as it is sensible, with practical upgrades to the foundation and drainage, along with the addition of solar panels and a Nest‑controlled AC and Heat that keeps the home a perfect temperature all year round. Whether you’re lounging in the living room or hosting friends, there’s a sense of calm and ease throughout.

Step outside and wander down the long driveway past room for 2–3 cars in tandem, arriving at the versatile, detached garage turned bonus space*. Fully air‑conditioned and heated, with electrical and water, it’s the perfect place to work from home, pursue a hobby, or entertain in comfort year‑round.

The backyard is a garden canvas waiting for your touch. A spacious deck just off the kitchen sets the stage for al fresco meals, while the lower paved area invites evening gatherings under the open sky. Raised beds, mature trees, and sunny nooks speak to peaceful mornings and starlit conversations.

Wake to soft sunlight, walk the streets shaded by leafy canopies, and feel the pride of a neighborhood where homeowners tend their gardens, neighbors greet each other, and block parties still happen. Framed by the Oakland Hills, and with Laurel, Grand Lake, Mills College, and Montclair shops moments away, you’ll experience a rare blend of respite and connection.

4621 Walnut Street is more than a house; it’s a place to exhale, root down, and flourish. Let’s find your way home.

about this

Neighborhood

Nestled in-between High Street and 55th Avenue, just south of Interstate-580, Maxwell Park is a popular neighborhood in East Oakland. Originally developed by John P. Maxwell, many of the homes in Maxwell Park were built in the 1920s and 1930s, and when compared to real estate in North Oakland and Downtown Oakland, feature lower prices per square foot. Residents of Maxwell Park are within close proximity to Mills College, small shopping plazas, restaurants, and plenty of public transit options.

As the neighborhood name might suggest, Maxwell Park offers a small community park near Allendale Avenue and Lilac Street. Featuring plenty of trees, a playground, and is directly next to the Peter Pan Nursery School, which has provided a nurturing environment for kids aged 2-6 since 1947. Add in the convenient access to incredible schools like Melrose Leadership Academy, and you can see why families love living in Maxwell Park.

MacArthur Blvd., between Loma Vista and High Street, is just a few blocks from Maxwell Park, and features a variety of popular restaurants, retail stores, and service shops. Some of the notable restaurants include the World Ground Cafe, Fist of Flour Doughjo and Everett and Jones BBQ.

Commuters love Maxwell Park due to the easy access to the AC Transit Route 14, which provides a direct route to the Fruitvale BART station. The bus ride to Fruitvale Station is less than 15 minutes from Maxwell Park, and from here, commuting to the heart of Oakland, or be in San Francisco’s Financial District in less than 30 minutes.
